Will these silver products kill the beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract?”

“Will silver products kill good bacteria in the digestive tract?”

An Indian study tested Hydrosol Silver against a variety of friendly bacteria and it found that the type of bacteria used in the body aids the digestion process. It was also found in the study that at 10ppm and 22ppm, the product didn’t inhibit the growth of probiotic bacterium.

To conclude, the report stated that “The results bring forth Hydrosol Silver as an ‘antibiotic of choice’ as it’s natural and doesn’t disturb the natural host. It compliments therapy by sparing the host’s essential microflora along with concomitant lactobacilli therapy that’s normally given as a supplementary.

How long is the shelf life of Hydrosol Silver?

The American Biotech labs presented its findings to members of The House International Relations Committee Subcommittee on Africa, Global Human Rights and International Operations. They found that once produced, Hydrosol Silver has a shelf life of around 10 years or more.

Although all American Biotech products have a 2 year expiry date from the date of manufacture, no real time of degradation of efficacy has ever been established.

There are batches of ABL going back over 10 years and when tested, they demonstrated the same characteristics and properties as when they were first bottled. ABL claims that their product viability goes up to 10 years. Employees have also left samples locked in cars during times of scorching summer heat and frozen winters. The samples showed no signs of degradation.

The patented process and the particles from that process, possess properties that mean they are set apart from conventional silver colloids, according to materials science laboratories at Penn State University. This is demonstrated within the extreme stability of the patented particles (See link to research paper below).

“We have personally used trade show samples that were over 4 years old. We could not notice any difference in them from fresh batch lots. The packaging is capped with pressure compensating tops. All that you need to do is make sure the cap is on snug after use. The only caution that Hydrosol lists on their bottles is that they not be stored in direct sunlight. Short term sunlight exposure presents no problems; you just do not want to store the bottle on a sunny window sill.

“The extreme stability of the Hydrosol silver colloids has attracted the interest of the US military. Negotiations are currently ongoing to place variants of this product in every combat medical corpsman’s field kit. As soon as the FDA completes the approvals for the new Hydrosol Silver™ wound gel dressings, I feel certain that we will see the US military as a major consumer of these products.”

Please read the very last appendix attachment (Hydrosol Silver™ vs. ACT) to the Congressional testimony for the official comments on shelf life, which are now part of the public record in the Library of Congress.

A group of internationally recognized authorities within the medical material science research field published a peer reviewed paper about the role of silver in suspension/solution in water. Six popular brands of colloidal silver were chosen but most spent their time (4+ years) concentrating on the Hydrosol silver solutions, due to their unusual and unique molecular properties. The stability of American Biotech products is noted in this paper.

Why are the products packaged in plastic? Isn’t glass better for storing silver colloids?

Silver in Glass vs. Plastic Containers
by David A. Revelli, MS

Introduction

Controversy has arisen over the market place question of if silver solutions are best stored in glass or plastic containers. Misconceptions prevail that glass is better and this is because glass containers are more efficient for storing products containing silver although this has never been proven scientifically. In fact, it’s been reported in studies that glass can have a detrimental effect on silver products.

Test Work

I have been conducting biological studies for 3 years, in the laboratory of a major private institution, on the use of silver products to kill and inhibit the growth of bacteria. I have conducted thousands of tests on numerous strains of pathogenic bacteria. In the testing I have completed, I have used both glass (5 ml glass test tubes) and plastic (Falcon 5 ml polypropylene plastic test tubes). In some of the test work we found that there was a difference in the amount of silver that was needed to kill the bacteria when glass was used versus plastic test tubes. In order to make sure this was the case, it was decided that the MIC tests (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) should be replicated by more than one person and a direct comparison was made. The MIC tests were performed in triplicate in both 5 ml 13X100mm glass test tubes and 5 ml Falcon polypropylene plastic test tubes. Results of the bacterial (MIC) tests showed that Staphylococcus aureus was inhibited at 2.5 ppm when the MIC test was performed in the plastic test tubes. S. aureus was inhibited at 5 ppm when the MIC test was performed in glass test tubes. This suggested that the material with which the test tubes were made, specifically glass or plastic, may have effected the results of the MIC test. Numerous other tests were also completed using larger concentrations of bacterium and in those tests it was found that there was no significant difference at all between using the glass test tubes versus plastic test tubes

Other Studies

The studies which I performed are not the only tests showing that glass, in some circumstances, may have a detrimental effect on silver products. It has been noted in another independent study which has been cited by other researchers that silver can adsorb to glass (Chambers 1960; Thurman 1989). With this in mind, it may have been possible that the silver could have adsorbed to the surface of the glass test tubes reducing the concentration of available silver interacting with the bacteria which resulted in having to use a higher amount of silver to kill the bacteria when the glass test tubes were used.

Conclusion

In test work, glass was found to have some detrimental effect on silver products although it cannot be said to always show the detrimental effect, it can also be stated that no problems have been found with using plastic instead of glass. In conclusion, tests show that with the available independent study, silver products shouldn’t be stored in glass containers as this could reduce the silver concentration available – instead a high quality plastic container should be used.

Why is bioavailability so important?

Bioavailability

In pharmacology, the bioavailability refers to the function of an administered dose of medication that reaches the systemic circulation – one of the principal pharmacokinetic properties of drugs.

When medication is administered intravenously, its bioavailability is 100%. Yet when delivered in other methods such as by mouth, its bioavailability decreases (due to its incomplete absorption and first-pass metabolism). Bioavailability is an essential tool in pharmacokinetics as bioavailability must be considered when calculating dosages for non-intravenous routes of administration. (Source: Wikipedia)

Therefore in essence, when a substance cannot reach the problem for which its ingestion was intended, then it cannot resolve the problem. When this information is coupled with other clinical and medical evidence as accumulated by Hydrosol Silver over the years, that’s when we agreed to make the unanimous decision to offer an exclusive line of Hydrosol silver products.

Question and answer about silver

Q: Which silver products on the market today are good and which ones are best avoided?

A: Ask for real independent test data. This should include independent safety reports, efficacy reports, government approvals for efficacy and endorsements from people with expertise and yet who have no ownership in the company, etc. No family should use a product unless it’s proven safe to use so looking for in-vivo (living) tests to prove non-toxicity is key. Always check the data, not just hearsay about a product.

Q: What should I look for? Some companies suggest particle size but what does that have to do with it?

A: Big red flags should go up if a company touts particle size or if the product is colloidal or ionic. The particle size argument is a useless theory that states if smaller is somehow better. The particle size is a smokescreen for the fact that companies have no real or reliable data to talk about. The companies with real data talk about it and don’t just argue about particle size. Unless it’s backed with real data, then particle size means nothing.

A company with little scientific standing will confuse potential clients with useless data unless it’s general in nature and has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the product – even if the data sounds impressive. It may just be copied or quoted from a doctor or scientist who worked in the early or middle 1900s.

If a product works then it will have reliable independent test data available upon request. The test data should have test time periods, how much is used in the test and how strong the silver content is. It’s also important to look for the name of the independent lab that did the work and in-vivo safety data.

Any information available from these companies given or shown to potential clients may be completed by in house laboratories where any data can be made up. Good test work has the name of a quality of reputable lab associated with this, on a signed copy.

Q: A lot of companies have come out with some kind of claim that their products are better than yours. Why don’t you come out with comparison studies showing that your product is better?

A: There are different parts to this answer. The first is we believe that these comparisons are just smoke and mirrors put out by low budget companies as they have none of their own real data. We have volumes of independent data so if they think that they can claim their product as better or more effective, it will give them credibility of some kind. Data can be skewed any number of ways however within an in house laboratory, when created again so it’s wise to be careful and double check claims where possible.

One site that claimed to be independent had comparisons of different products and stated that our product wasn’t metallic but around 80% ionic. Upon investigation, we found that the site wasn’t independent as it claimed to be but rather was misleading to promote their own product.
